On the Mathematical Modeling of Transient Saturation Characteristics of Current Transformer

Abstract: In case of current fault, if the primary current contains aperiodic DC component, the current trans-former will be in the transient saturation state, which will cause the relay protection device to malfunction. Aiming at this problem, the mathematical modeling of the transient saturation characteristics of the current transformer is proposed. Based on the analysis of transient saturation characteristics, a mathematical model is established, and a computer simulation program is used to design a simulation experiment to test the influence of aperiodic DC component current on the transient saturation of current transformer. The experimental results show that avoiding the secondary side open circuit in operation can effectively alleviate the transient saturation of current transformer.
