Africa Laterite PST Subgrade Construction

Abstract: Today, with the development of social economy in Africa, the construction of infrastructure has been rapidly developed. Now the traffic demand in many African countries the existing road mileage is less, grow with each passing day, many roads can’t meet the traffic demand, road congestion, and traffic accidents, so more and more new project planning to join. The laterite area is widely distributed throughout of Africa geological conditions, and China common loess, clay with high water content, low density and high strength of subgrade and pavement, should according to the requirements of the use of local natural conditions and combined with the construction plan design, not only should have enough economic strength and stability and reasonable.Most countries in Africa by the French road design standard, but most of the traffic engineering infrastructure projects in Africa are responsible for the Chinese company, Chinese engineer on the local clay gravel characteristics and specification and France roadbed design method and construction process are not well understood, French standard is not unified, causing difficulties in the project design and construction process. Therefore, combining with the local engineering research on the subgrade construction technology in red soil region, this paper provides the theoretical guidance for the Chinese engineers working in Africa in the design and construction of road subgrade.
